Religious Education

“We, the family of St. Catherine of Siena parish, dedicate ourselves to Jesus by serving one another. We are called to share our gifts, talents and resources for the glory of God our Father. We, as His disciples, strive daily to live the words of our patroness, “Everything comes from love”, and to be the examples to everyone we encounter to love one another as He loves us.

The Department of Religious Education is committed to the effort in helping our children know the love of God through Jesus Christ and the joy of celebrating that love as Roman Catholics. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation so our children can express why they are Catholic, what Catholics believe and to live their faith. We treasure the vibrant life of the children in our parish and see them as images of Christ’s presence in us.

Calendar: 2007-2008 Religious Education Class Calendar

Goals and Objectives: St. Catherine’s Religious Education program educates students to strengthen and develop a personal love for Jesus Christ by growing in a meaningful prayer life and understanding of Catholic beliefs, worship and moral teachings.

Volunteers: We encourage parents to assist in the educational process by volunteering as teachers, co-teachers, aides, substitute teachers, office volunteers, nursery volunteers and carpool volunteers. Your presence and enthusiasm create an excellent means of reinforcing the value of Catholic, Christian education in the community. Please call the Religious Education office at 770-794-9017 and let us know how you can help.

Communication: Good communication between the home and religious education program is important in serving the needs of your children. We ask that the parents become familiar with the following procedures and use them when communicating with Religious Education office/staff.

Student Information Changes: Please make any changes in your student’s information by contacting the Education Office at 770-794-9017.

Telephone Calls: If parents wish to speak with a staff person, call the Religious Education Office. Every effort will be made to return your call within 24 hours. Parents wishing to speak with your child’s teacher need to call the Religious Education Office. Arrangements will be made within 24 hours.

Class Attendance: Regular attendance is a serious parental obligation. Irregular attendance may cause the student to miss important lessons and may result in lack of enthusiasm for religious education.

Time Tracks: Please drop your child off so that they are in the classroom at the beginning of the time track. We are limited to the amount of time we have the children in the program, and every minute is important.

Arrival: Students should not arrive any earlier than 10 minutes before class starts. Please do not leave children unattended in their classroom.

Class Cancellation/Inclement Weather Policy

It is our policy to follow the Cobb County School Closing Schedule regarding snow or ice. It is hard for us to make “the call” about whether a heavy covering of snow in the morning or extremely icy streets overnight will be cleared by the start of class time. Many of our students and teachers also come from other counties, which have even more inclement weather than Cobb County. Please check TV channels 2 and 11 for cancellation postings for weather or any type of emergency situation.

On Sunday mornings, if the State Department of Transportation has issued a traveler’s advisory, call the Parish Office (770-428-7139) to check for class cancellations or check TV channels 2 and 11.
